The aim of the study was to test two assumptions about the lateralization of the processing of emotional facial expressions: the assumption of right hemisphere dominance and the valence assumption and to egsamine the influence of gender of the presented stimulus (chimera) and depression as an emotional state of participants. The sample consisted of 83 female students, with an average age of 20 years. Participants solved the Task of Recognizing Emotional Facial Expressions on a computer and then completed the DASS-21, Depression subscale. The results of the study partially confirmed the assumption of valence for the dependent variable - the accuracy of the response. Participants were recognizing more accurately the emotion of sadness than happiness when it is presented on the left side of the face, which is consistent with the valence hypothesis, according to which the right hemisphere is responsible for recognizing negative emotions. However, when it comes to the right side of the face, participants were equally accurately recognizing the emotion of sadness and happiness, which is not consistent with the valence hypothesis. The main effect of the gender of the chimera was statistically significant for the accuracy of the response, the recognition accuracy was higher for the male chimeras compared to the female. A statistically significant negative correlation was obtained between the variable sides of the face (left and right) with the achieved result on the depression subscale for the dependent variable - reaction time. The higher the score on the depressive subscale, the slower (longer) is reaction time to the presented chimera, both on the left and on the right.

This review paper offers a definition and explanation of the self-care concept as one of the basic ways of developing and nurturing professional and personal capacities and maintaining healthy boundaries between the professional and personal life of helpers. The paper also emphasizes the ethical components of self-care as an imperative of helpers to take care of their own mental and physical health. Challenges for the development and maintenance of skills and conditions for the sustainability of self-care in the helping professions are described and analyzed from the perspective of personal responsibility and the institution’s obligation to ensure healthy working conditions and professional growth and development. Introduction to the self-care concept and comparative analysis is presented through the presentation of various, mostly foreign studies that have monitored the effects of self-care on the overall health of helpers and their professional effects. The paper also describes the adverse consequences of the lack of self-care skills and activities that encourage it. It also emphasizes the negative effects on the health of the helpers and their work potential. In conclusion, guidelines are defined for the development and maintenance of the helper's self-care, important both for his satisfaction in personal life and especially in professional success and self-actualization.

A system of fifteen variables (7 morphological and 8 variables for assessing postural status) was applied to a sample of 284 male and female students from the first to the third grade of primary school, with the aim of determining the differences between boys and girls. The results showed that there were statistically significant differences between the examined samples in the following morphological variables: in the first class (body weight and skin fold of the triceps), in the second class (body height, body weight, skin fold of the triceps and skin fold of the biceps) and in third grade (body height, skin fold of triceps, skin fold of back, skin fold of biceps, and skin fold of lower leg). Statistically significant differences in the variables for assessing postural status exist in the following variables: in the first grade (head posture, shoulder posture, shoulder posture, chest shape and leg shape), in the second grade (shoulder posture, chest shape, and spinal deviation in frontal plane) and in the third grade (deviation of the spinal column in the frontal plane, holding the anterior abdominal wall and the shape of the legs). Based on the obtained results, it can be concluded that in the younger school-age in morphology there is a significant sexual dimorphism and with it in connection with the change of postural status.

A method of encryption of the 3D plane in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is presented. The method is derived using Voronoi-Delaunay triangulation and properties of Catalan numbers. The Voronoi-Delaunay incremental algorithm is presented as one of the most commonly used triangulation techniques for random point selection. In accordance with the multiple applications of Catalan numbers in solving combinatorial problems and their "bit-balanced" characteristic, the process of encrypting and decrypting the coordinates of points using the Lattice Path method (walk on the integer lattice) or LIFO model is given. The triangulation of the plane started using decimal coordinates of a set of given planar points. Afterward, the resulting decimal values of the coordinates are converted to corresponding binary records and the encryption process starts by a random selection of the Catalan key according to the LIFO model. These binary coordinates are again converted into their original decimal values, which enables the process of encrypted triangulation. The original triangulation of the plane can be generated by restarting the triangulation algorithm. Due to its exceptional efficiency in terms of launching programs on various computer architectures and operating systems, Java programming language enables an efficient implementation of our method.

Immunosuppressive drugs are administered to decrease immune system activity (e.g. of patients undergoing solid organ transplant). Concentrations of immunosuppressive drugs (ISDs) in circulating blood must be closely monitored during the period of immunosuppression therapy due to adverse effects that take place when concentration levels fall outside of the very narrow therapeutic concentration range of these drugs. This study presents the rapid determination of four relevant immunosuppressive drugs (tacrolimus, sirolimus, everolimus, and cyclosporine A) in whole human blood by directly coupling solid-phase microextraction to mass spectrometry via the microfluidic open interface (Bio-SPME-MOI-MS/MS). The BioSPME-MOI-MS/MS method offers ≤ 10% imprecision of in-house prepared quality controls over a 10-day period, ≤ 10% imprecision of ClinCal® Recipe calibrators over a three-day period, and single total turnaround time of ∼ 60 min (4.5 min for high throughput). The limits of quantification were determined to be 0.8 ng mL-1 for tacrolimus, 0.7 ng mL-1 sirolimus, 1.0 ng mL-1 for everolimus, and 0.8 ng mL-1 for cyclosporine. The limits of detection were determined to be 0.3 ng mL-1 for tacrolimus, 0.2 ng mL-1 for sirolimus, 0.3 ng mL-1 for everolimus, and 0.3 ng mL-1 for cyclosporine A. The R2 values for all analytes were above 0.9992 with linear dynamic range from 1.0 mL-1 to 50.0 ng mL-1 for tacrolimus, sirolimus, and everolimus while from 2.5 ng mL-1 to 500.0 ng mL-1 for cyclosporine A. To further evaluate the performance of the present method, 95 residual whole blood samples of tacrolimus and sirolimus from patients undergoing immunosuppression therapy were used to compare the Bio-SPME-MOI-MS/MS method against a clinically validated reference method based on chemiluminescent microparticle immunoassay, showing acceptable results. Our results demonstrated that Bio-SPME-MOI-MS/MS can be considered as a suitable alternative to existing methods for the determination of immunosuppressive drugs in whole blood providing faster analysis, better selectivity and sensitivity, and a wider dynamic range than current existing approaches.

Aim To assess concordance of eight frequently used serology-based scoring indices for liver fibrosis and cirrhosis with transient elastography (TE) in chronic hepatitis C (CHC) patients in order to determine serum indices with the highest concordance and clinical usability in clinical practice. Methods In this prospective study, 63 CHC patients were included and TE results were compared with eight non-invasive indices. The diagnostic performance of these tests was assessed using receiver operating characteristic curves with kappa index calculated for the concordance analysis. Results Median age of 63 patients was 54 years (interquartile range: 42 to 63); 27 (42.9%) were females. According to areas under the Receiver Operating Characteristics (AUROC), the best performing serum markers for significant liver fibrosis (METAVIR ≥F2), advanced liver fibrosis (≥F3) and cirrhosis (F4) determined by TE measurements (≥7.1kPa, ≥9.5kPa and ≥12kPa, respectively) were Fibrotest (AUROC=0.727 for ≥F2) and FIB-4 score (AUROC=0.779 for ≥F3 and AUROC=0.889 for F4). Fibrotest cut-off at >0.50 was concordant with TE for presence of significant fibrosis in 30 (out of 45; 66.7%), FIB-4 cut-off at <1.45 was concordant for absence of significant fibrosis in 13 (out of 18; 72.2%) and Goeteborg University Cirrhosis Index (GUCI) cut-off at >1 was concordant for presence of cirrhosis in 16 (out of 22; 72.7%) patients, but not for exclusion of cirrhosis. Conclusion Serology-based scoring indices had moderate overall concordance with TE. We propose that FIB-4 score, Fibrotest and GUCI be used in routine practice to exclude and diagnose significant fibrosis and diagnose cirrhosis, respectively.

In this letter we present a fast triple voltage quenching circuit (TVQC) with an integrated <inline-formula> <tex-math notation="LaTeX">$40~\mu \text{m}$ </tex-math></inline-formula> diameter single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) in 0.35-<inline-formula> <tex-math notation="LaTeX">$\mu \text{m}$ </tex-math></inline-formula> CMOS. By pre-biasing the switching MOSFETs the reaction time of the TVQC is kept small, leading to a total quenching time of only 1.4 ns of which 0.61 ns are actively quenched. This short reaction time reduces the avalanche charge and therefore also the afterpulsing probability (APP). The dead time is adjustable from 7.9 ns to 200 ns, which allows further reducing the APP. Experimental verification shows an APP of 2.1% at a dead time of 30 ns. Using an integrated SPAD with a thick absorption zone allows achieving a photon detection probability (PDP) of 28.8% at 850 nm, while showing a peak PDP of 53.1% at 657 nm, both at 9.9 V excess bias.

Balneo-gynaecological treatment methods include external bath hydrotherapy, sedentary baths and topical dressings/cataplasm, and internal (intravaginal or intrarectal use of peloids and mineral water). Hyperosmolar thermal spas have been very popular in the treatment of infertility due to the improvement of symptoms of chronic pelvic pain, endometriosis, chronic vascular and inflammatory pelvic diseases. Acute pelvic inflammatory syndrome is a contraindication for balneo-hydrotherapy while hyperthermal hydrotherapy is contraindicated in endometriosis and neurovegetative dystonia due to the stimulation of hyperemia, which worsens the clinical picture. Balneo-hydrotherapy is not recommended in metrorrhagia and malignancies. Balneogynaecological treatment certainly has its own primary but also complementary role in the treatment of chronic gynaecological diseases and is increasingly recommended today.

ABSTRACT Six blood groups (Rh, MN, Duffy, Kidd, Kell, and Lutheran) were investigated among three major ethnic groups (Bosniaks, Bosnian Croats, and Bosnian Serbs), as well as 10 regional subpopulations across Bosnia and Herzegovina (B&H): Krajina; Posavina; northeastern, eastern, middle, and central Bosnia; Sarajevo region; eastern, central, and western Herzegovina. This is the first study that introduces the molecular genetic typing of five blood groups within the B&H population, with the exception of the RhD blood group. The sample consisted of 450 buccal swabs from unrelated individuals. Five blood group systems (RhD, RhC, RhE, Kidd, MN) were genotyped by PCR with sequence specific primers, while three blood group systems (Kell, Duffy, Lutheran) were genotyped by the PCR-restriction-fragment-length polymorphism method. Minor variation of genetic diversity was observed within the three major B&H ethnic groups, as well as within the 10 subpopulations stratified according to geographical criteria. No genetic differentiation among ethnic groups was noticed. These results are in agreement with the results of previous studies based on different molecular genetics markers, which indicate that the three B&H ethnic groups belong to the same gene pool. A similar level of genetic variance was observed within regional subpopulations, with no significant genetic differentiation among them. Comparison of intrapopulation genetic diversity of the B&H population with other European and non-European populations, based on three loci (RHD, MN, and KEL), clearly show that the level of genetic diversity of the B&H population is within the European range.

Using our theory which is based on the strong-field approximation we analyze high-order above-threshold ionization and high-order harmonic generation processes for the case of the homonuclear diatomic molecules exposed to an orthogonally polarized two-color (OTC) laser field. The OTC field represents a superposition of two linearly polarized fields with mutually orthogonal polarizations and different frequencies. We analyze the photoelectron energy spectra and the harmonic ellipticity as a function of the ratio of the intensities of the OTC laser-field components and the relative phase. Some combinations of the values of these parameters lead to the high-energy electrons, while the harmonic ellipticity depends strongly on the ratio of the intensities of the laser-field components. It is possible to find the value of this ratio for which the ellipticity of the emitted harmonics is large. The signes of ellipticity are opposite for the molecular orientations which are connected through the reflection with respect to the axis along the first OTC field component. This symmetry is explained using the expression which relates the T-matrix element and the harmonic ellipticity.

Aim To investigate interleukin 6 (IL-6) values depending on duration of diabetes mellitus (DM) and evaluate possible correlation with diabetic polyneuropathy. Methods The research study included 90 patients with DM divided into three groups (30 patients each) according to the duration of DM: group A - patients who had DM for less than 10 years, group B - duration of DM was 10 to 20 years, and group C - patients with DM over 20 years. Control group (K) included 30 healthy participants. Results IL-6 was significantly higher in the healthy control group, 180.318 pg/mL±94.18, than in group A, 47.23pg/ml±34.8, group B, 43.31pg/ml±33.17, and group C, 70.39 pg/ml±59.26 (p=0.0001). All groups had significantly different values of IL-6 between each other (p=0.0001). Level of IL-6 was in correlation with diabetic polyneuropathy in the group A (the youngest participants) (p=0.0001). In other groups there was no significant correlation between IL-6 and diabetic polyneuropathy. Conclusion The level of IL-6 was in correlation with neuropathy among younger patients. A higher level of IL-6 in the control group than in diabetic groups is a sign of stronger inflammatory response among younger and healthy people than in patients with DM.

Aim To evaluate the pattern of indications and a spectrum of colonic pathology, and to determine appropriateness of indications for colonoscopy in order to improve patient selection for colonoscopy. Methods This retrospective study includes 294 patients who were referred to the Gastroenterology Department from a primary care physician in order to approach endoscopic examination. Study data included patients' anamnestic data (comorbidities, positive family history, performed radiological examinations) an indication for the procedure, and colonoscopy findings. Results Haematochezia was confirmed in 186 (63.26%), positive radiologic finding in183 (62.24%) and anaemia in 157 (53.40%) patients. Adenoma and colorectal carcinoma were detected in 40 (13.6%) and 53 (18%) patients, respectively. A significant association between haematochezia and colorectal neoplasm was confirmed (p=0.019), haematochezia and inflammatory bowel disease (p=0.027), and between radiological finding and colorectal neoplasm (p=0.018). There was no significant association between anaemia and any of the colonoscopic findings. According to EPAGE II criteria indications were appropriate in 187 (63.6%), uncertain in 67 (22.8%) and inappropriate in 40 (13.6%) patients. Conclusion This study confirmed a slightly larger number of uncertain and inappropriate indications for colonoscopy compared to other studies that examined indications for colonoscopy, which can be attributed to a high number of patients with functional bowel disorders.

Shape analysis is an important and powerful tool in a wide variety of medical applications. Many shape analysis techniques require shape representations which are in correspondence. Unfortunately, popular techniques for generating shape representations do not handle objects with complex geometry or topology well, and those that do are not typically readily available for non-expert users. We describe a method for generating correspondences across a population of objects using a given template. We also describe its implementation and distribution via SlicerSALT, an open-source platform for making powerful shape analysis techniques more widely available and usable. Finally, we show results of this implementation on mouse femur data.
