Climate change is expected to reduce the distribution range of major tree species in Europe. As a result, rare and underutilized tree species are gaining importance, despite limited research on their ecological characteristics. One such species is wild service tree ( Sorbus torminalis (L.) Crantz)

C. K. Schneider), from Southern Russia (plantation) and Southern Siberia. During the DNA analysis, 16 primers were used, which were combined at amplification. On the basis of molecular analyses of regions in genomic and chloroplast DNA, their genetic closeness was determined. Therefore, the authors suggest that the Croatian sibirea ( Sibi-raea croatica Deg.) is not a separate species, but should be recognized at a lower taxonomic rank as the ecotype of the Altaic sibirea ( S. altaiensis (Laxm.) C.K. Schneider). Based on the phylogenetic analysis of internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions in genomic ribosomal genes (rDNA), the phylogenetic position of Sibiraea spp. was confirmed within the Rosaceae family.
