Este trabalho teve como objetivo enriquecer produtos de panificacao do tipo biscoito e rocambole com farinha de feijao-caupi (FFC), avaliar sua aceitabilidade e composicao quimica, incluindo o conteudo dos minerais (ferro, zinco, magnesio, potassio e fosforo) e das vitaminas (tiamina e piridoxina). Foram desenvolvidas tres formulacoes de biscoito contendo 10, 20 e 30% FFC e duas formulacoes de rocambole contendo 10 e 20% FFC. Observou-se um aumento no teor proteico do biscoito 30% FFC e do rocambole 20% FFC e na quantidade de cinzas dos biscoitos 20 e 30% FFC e rocambole 20% FFC, quando comparados as formulacoes padrao. O teor dos minerais analisados e de piridoxina aumentou a medida que FFC foi adicionada, enquanto a concentracao de tiamina aumentou somente no rocambole 20% FFC. O biscoito com 10% FFC apresentou maior aceitacao (84,4%), dentre os biscoitos formulados com FFC, alem disso, os rocamboles com 10 e 20% FFC tiveram boa aceitacao (86,7 e 77,8%, respectivamente). Todas as formulacoes contendo FFC tiveram notas superiores a 6, mostrando que os produtos foram aceitos sensorialmente. Desta forma, a adicao de FFC visando melhorar o valor nutritivo de formulacoes a base de cereais e viavel.
BACKGROUND Genetic susceptibility to cancer is multifactorial, and it is known that impairment of the immune system could contribute to risk for getting cancer. AIM OF THE STUDY Single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of Toll-like receptor (TLR) 2, TLR3, TLR4, and TLR9 genes, which are important for innate immunity, were analyzed for the association with breast cancer. METHODS The SNPs comprised TLR2 (c.597T>C), TLR2 (c.1350T>C), TLR3 (c.1377C>T), TLR4 (c.896A>G), and TLR9 (c.1635A>G). The allelic and genotypic frequencies of these TLR SNPs were compared between patients (n = 130) and controls (n = 101) in a case-control study from Croatia. RESULTS TLR SNPs were not significantly different. From the population genetics viewpoint, we found that a hypomorphic variant of TLR4 (p.Asp299Gly) allele has no specific allelic frequency (8.4%) in the Croatian population (n = 496) compared to other Caucasians (6.5-10%). CONCLUSION These results suggest that polymorphisms in tested TLR genes are not likely to be associated with increased risk for developing breast cancer.

The experimental results on the tt production cross section at the Tevatron are well described by the QCD contributions within the standard model, while the recently measured forward-backward asymmetry is larger than predicted within this framework. We consider light colored scalars appearing in a particular SU(5) grand unified theory model within the 45-dimensional Higgs representation. A virtue of the model is that it connects the presence of a light colored SU(2) singlet ({Delta}{sub 6}) and a color octet weak doublet ({Delta}{sub 1}) with bounds on the proton lifetime, which constrain the parameter space of both scalars. We find that both the total tt production cross section and the forward-backward asymmetry can be accommodated simultaneously within this model. The experimental results prefer a region for the mass of {Delta}{sub 6} around 400 GeV, while {Delta}{sub 1} is then constrained to have a mass around the TeV scale as well. We analyze possible experimental signatures and find that {Delta}{sub 6} associated top production could be probed in the tt+jets final states at Tevatron and the LHC.
