We address the metal–organic frameworks UiO-6x (x = 6, 7, 8), their band gaps, and the changes in the band gaps upon perturbations in the metal–organic framework structures. Computational studies were performed with complementary experimental band gap measurements. Band gap modulations upon hydrogen substitutions by NH2 and NO2 on the organic linker, hydroxylation and dehydroxylation of the metal center, different linker lengths (x = 6, 7, 8), and Ti and Hf substitutions for Zr were analyzed in detail. The origin of the band gap changes was thoroughly investigated, and this work confirmed a reduction in the band gap upon NH2 and NO2 substitutions. Furthermore, this work explicitly illustrated that changes in the band gap were also observed by changing the coordination around the Zr atom, whereas isovalent substitutions on the metal center did not yield significant perturbations of the band gap.
In the last decade of the twentieth century, the process of internationalization of production and trade has been intensified. It is a process of opening of national markets in terms of free flow of goods, capital and labor. Moreover, it contributes to sustainable development by offering better conditions under which goods are produced and traded. From the moment of independence countries of Western Balkan have chosen to become democratic societies followed by other advanced transition countries. All countries of the Western Balkan (WB) have accepted the market economy as the basic orientation and long-term perspective of their social and economic development. This fact constant of the new economic reality in the WB region had certain significance to their further development. The main objective of this paper is to show the effects of globalization on the level of integration of the WB in the global economic flows. This paper uses a cross-country comparison methodology and examines the following aspects: progress made with capital account liberalization on the economy of Western Balkan region, what are the changes in the structure of trade, as well as the involvement of these countries in the global financial system. The process of trade and capital-account liberalization enabled transitional countries to gradually integrate into international trade and financial flows at the end of the 1990s. The effects of such processes have been demonstrated in increased inflow of foreign direct investments, increasing international trade and increasing foreign exchange reserves. The paper is divided into five sections. Section 2 deals with the impact of capital flows on the economy of Western Balkan countries. Section 3 analyzes trends in Trade reorientation of economies of Western Balkan. Section 4 analyzes trends in foreign direct investment (FDI) flows. The findings and discussion presented in previous sections of this article ends with conclusions that the WB countries achieved significant progress in the reorientation of trade and start the process of reintegration into the international financial flows. From an economic point of view, the past decade has shown that all the WB countries largely depend on their cooperation with the EU, either through foreign direct investment, loans or grants. Effect of geographic proximity is an important factor that influenced on high level trade exchanges with the EU gave companies from EU a major competitive advantage in initiating the international expansion of their activities in neighboring countries (WB region). Thanks to the reforms and the promising economic outlook region of WB become a place where investors with regional ambitions had the greatest potential for cross border expansion. This is especially important in the context of the region's aspiration to join the EU.
The accessory deep peroneal (ADPN) nerve has been regarded as an anomalous nerve derived from the superficial peroneal nerve or its branch and supplies motor innervations for extensor digitorum brevis (EDB) and sensory innervations for the lateral part of the ankle and foot regions. The EDB is usually innervated exclusively by the deep peroneal nerve, a major branch of the the common peroneal nerve, however, in as many as 28% of patients (with same male/female frequency), one or both of the EDB muscles are (partially or exclusively) innervated by the ADPN nerve. This anomaly appears to be inherited in autosomal dominant fashion with incomplete gene penetrance. ADPN existence is of great clinical and surgical importance, and the aim of this study is to describe a very rare case of coexistence ADPN and anterior tarsal tunnel syndrome.
BACKGROUND/AIM Acne is a common problem in adolescent children with considerable emotional and psychological effects. The aim of this study was to determine the self-reported prevalence of acne and to assess its impact on the quality of life in high school pupils in Serbia. METHODS The cross-sectional study was conducted in May 2011 in two medical high schools in Serbia. Only pupils who gave a written informed consent to participate in the study (n = 440) were asked to fill in two questionnaires: short demographic questionnaire and Cardiff Acne Disability Index (CADI), a disease-specific questionnaire measuring disability induced by acne. Internal consistency (tested by Cronbach's alpha) and item-total score correlations (Spearman's correlation analysis) were used for reliability analyses. RESULTS The study population consisted of 440 pupils, 281 from Belgrade and 159 from Uzice. Among them 371 (84.3%) were girls and 69 (15.7%) boys, with similar sex distribution in Belgrade and Uzice. The total mean age of pupils was 16.48 years (SD = 0.55). Out of 440 pupils 228 (51.8%) self-reported their acne. The acne prevalence was significantly higher in pupils from Uzice (73.6%) than in those from Belgrade (39.6%). The overall mean CADI score for the whole sample was 2.87 +/- 2.74, with the similar quality of life impairment in adolescents from Belgrade and from Uzice. The mean Cronbach's alpha was 0.82. CONCLUSION This study shows that the quality of life impairment due to acne is mild for the majority of the affected pupils. The Serbian version of the CADI is a reliable, valid, and valuable tool for assessing the impact of acne on the quality of life.
A milder postoperative inflammatory change was noted with polydioxanone Endoloop ligatures than with polyglactin ligatures.
