Optimal design and demonstrative application of standalone hybrid renewable energy system

Standalone hybrid renewable energy system (SHRES) is based on strengths and complements of two or more energy sources for the power production, where at least one is a renewable. This paper intends to highlight possibilities of SHRES application for a telecommunication station power supply in a remote mountainous site in southern region of Bosnia and Herzegovina (B&H). The feasibility of such system highly depends on resources potential at a specific site. Solar PV/Wind/Diesel generator hybrid system with batteries as a backup is proposed in this paper. System modeling and analysis are performed in HOMER software, based on the load requirements and the solar and wind resource potential at the site under investigation. Optimal component sizing and system configuration are proposed as a result of conducted techno-economic feasibility analysis.
